Your Property Photographs Have One Main Job

The photographs of your home have an incredibly important job to do: they need to make somebody want to come and see it.

That is why I believe professional photography is essential.

Poor photographs taken quickly on a phone are unlikely to present your home at its best. Your property is competing against other homes online, and buyers will be scrolling through listings deciding which ones deserve a viewing.

The first photograph is particularly important because that is normally the image they initially see.

I also believe there is a balance to be struck with photography. You want to show enough of the property to create interest, but you do not necessarily need to show absolutely everything. If buyers feel they have already seen every corner of the home online, some of the curiosity has disappeared.

Before the photographer arrives, prepare the home properly. Clear surfaces, put unnecessary items away, make the beds neatly and arrange cushions and pillows. You are trying to create a clean, uncluttered, almost show-home appearance.

I have attended photography appointments where we have spent considerable time moving furniture and clearing things from one room to another to get the best possible photographs.

It is worth making that effort.

These images are effectively your window into the buyer’s world. Before somebody ever walks through your front door, the photographs may have already persuaded them either to view your home or move on to another property.
